Intro to stained glass workshop in Toronto

Are you interested in learning a new art form, developing a new hobby, or are you just interested in stained glass because it’s super rad and awesome?
I have a cozy workspace in my garage in the St Clair West neighbourhood of Toronto where I offer a 3.5-hour introductory stained glass class for beginners. Class sizes are capped at max. 3 students per session, so you will get lots of help and support as you learn.
In this workshop, you will be introduced to all of the basics of this unique art form, including how to safely cut, grind, foil, and solder. You will get to create your own glass suncatcher that you take home at the end of the class. Prior to the class, I will send a few design options for you to pick from.
All material costs are included.
Suitable for anyone 18+ who is able to stand for the 3.5 hour duration of the class. The studio is in the garage and has several stairs so is not wheelchair accessible. This workshop is not recommended for those who are pregnant or nursing as we will be working with lead. A fairly steady hand is required so this workshop is not recommended for anyone with hand tremors.
Any questions, please email me at: mcrobertsglass@gmail.com
Unfortunately, due to the size of my wee studio, I can only host max 3 students at this time.

Note: this is not an industrial or fancy studio space; it is a home studio located in my garage so you will see kids bikes in the corner etc. But there is plenty of space to work and tons of glass to choose from! This pic shows one of the two work benches- lots of space for 3 students to get creative!
What to bring:
-closed lid water bottle
-close toed shoes (mandatory requirement)
-safety glasses if you have a pair
Disclaimers:
-solder used in stained glass contains lead. I take lead safety very seriously so will have gloves and special handsoap available for all students. Note that there is no respiratory risk with lead solder (it will not get hot enough to be a danger for vapour) so good hand hygiene is enough to prevent any health risks.
-we will be working with glass, and we will be breaking it. Sometimes nicks and small cuts happen. I will teach you safe glass handling techniques and we will be wearing gloves (supplied by me), but will have a stash on Bandaids on-hand if needed.
Student testimonials:
“I was gifted a one-on-one stained glass session with Amanda for my birthday. I had always loved stained glass, but never had the opportunity to try making it myself. I have been a fan of McRoberts Glass for awhile, and knew this session would not disappoint. Amanda was extremely knowledgeable and encouraging. She taught me all of the basics of how to cut, grind, foil and solder a piece, and answered all of my questions easily. At the end of the session I walked away with a gorgeous piece that I will keep forever. This session sparked my own love for stained glass. I have since started creating pieces in my own garage, and Amanda has continued to be a wonderful support to me. If you are interested in stained glass, this one-on-one will not disappoint.” - Amanda B.
